Not just Kinsky: Spurs flop should be nowhere near the starting XI vs Nottingham Forest – opinion

This afternoon brings one of the most important football matches of the entire season to North London.

Tottenham Hotspur will step onto the grass to face Nottingham Forest. This is not just a regular game. This specific match carries massive weight for the long-term future of the club.

Right now, Tottenham is fighting a terrifying battle to stay in the Premier League. The team is sitting just one single point above the dreaded relegation zone.

Last weekend, they managed to fight hard and secure a one-to-one draw away against a very strong Liverpool team.

That single point was just enough to keep them slightly ahead of West Ham United in the league table.

However, the danger is still incredibly real. Today, they are facing a Nottingham Forest side that is also fighting for their lives. Forest is currently sitting just outside the drop zone, only safe because they have a slightly better goal difference.

This makes today’s game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a classic six-pointer. Whoever wins this match will take a massive step toward safety, while the loser will be pulled deeper into the mud.

Nottingham Forest is coming into this game feeling very good about themselves. Under the guidance of manager Vitor Pereira, they recently reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

That European success will give their players a huge boost of confidence as they travel to London today.

For Tottenham manager Igor Tudor, the pressure is heavier than ever. He desperately needs to win all three points today. It would be his first league win since taking the job.

To make sure his team actually wins and pulls away from the danger of relegation, the manager must make some very strict choices about his starting lineup.

He needs players he can trust completely. More importantly, he must make sure that certain players are nowhere near the starting eleven.

The biggest lesson for the manager came during the away match against Atletico Madrid last week. That game opened his eyes to who is truly ready to fight for the shirt.

In that match in Spain, the manager decided to rest his main goalkeeper and play Antonin Kinsky instead. That decision turned out to be a total disaster.

Kinsky showed a shocking lack of quality on the big stage. In just the first fifteen minutes of the game, he made two terrible mistakes that led directly to two goals for the Spanish team.

The manager had to take him off the field very early and bring the regular number one, Guglielmo Vicario, into the game to stop the bleeding.

Since that awful night in Spain, Vicario has started the last two matches. He played in the hard draw against Liverpool and the brave home win against Atletico.

But there is a dark cloud hanging over the goalkeeper position today. During the press conference on Friday, it was revealed that Vicario is suffering from a painful hernia injury and will need surgery soon.

Despite this bad news, there is still a chance he can play through the pain today. Even if he is not fully healthy, Tottenham simply cannot afford any more silly mistakes at the back.

The manager must choose the injured Vicario over Kinsky. The backup goalkeeper proved he cannot handle the pressure, and he needs to stay firmly seated on the bench this afternoon.

Sadly, Kinsky is not the only problem player at the club right now. A terrible mix of bad injuries and awful form has pushed Tottenham into this sad league position for the second year in a row. Igor Tudor was hired to come in and fix this broken team.

So far, he has not been able to find the right answers. In his first six games in charge, he has only managed to win one single match. While injuries have made his job very hard, the fans are starting to question his decisions.

He has tried playing with four defenders, and then he changed to playing with three defenders. Nothing seems to work perfectly, and the team still looks very shaky.

One of the most confusing choices the manager keeps making is playing Radu Dragusin in the defense. The center-back has started four of the last six games, and his performances have been incredibly poor every single time.

Dragusin joined the club in the year 2024. Since then, he has only played forty-six times because a horrible knee injury stopped his progress. Now that he is back, the manager has thrown him straight into the deep end, and the player is clearly drowning.

His performance against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night was completely unacceptable. He was on the pitch for sixty-six minutes before the manager finally decided he had seen enough and took him off.

Even though Tottenham won that game, Dragusin was a weak link. The numbers from his performance are shocking to read.

During his time on the field, he only touched the ball forty times, but he managed to give the ball away to the other team sixteen different times. That means he lost the ball almost every time it came near him.

When it came to defending, he was totally dominated by the Spanish attackers. He entered several ground battles for the ball and lost every single one of them.

He did not win a single tackle all night. When the ball was in the air, he only won half of his battles. He also only managed to make one single interception to stop a pass.

When he tried to pass the ball, only sixty-nine percent of his passes reached a teammate. He failed to complete any dribbles, and every single long pass he tried went straight to the other team.

It was a performance that everyone in North London wants to forget as quickly as possible.

Thankfully for the manager, he has much better options available for today’s massive game. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are back and ready to play.

They are the best defenders at the club. Their return means Dragusin should be pushed far down the list of choices. Just like Kinsky, the Romanian defender should be absolutely nowhere near the starting eleven today.

If Tottenham wants to secure three huge points against Nottingham Forest, Igor Tudor has to be brave.

He has to drop the players who are making mistakes. Keeping Dragusin and Kinsky on the bench is the easiest and most important decision he can make.

A game with so much pressure leaves absolutely zero room for errors. These two players have proven they are not at the level required to save this club from relegation.
