‘Needs to go’ – Expert wants star gone after Romano update

Tottenham News is thrilled to introduce John Wenham from Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Offering expert insights weekly, Wenham will delve into the major talking points surrounding Spurs.

Wenham holds the belief that Bryan Gil should be permanently sold instead of being sent out on loan, emphasizing that “he is not going to make it at Tottenham.”

Struggling since his arrival in the Premier League two and a half years ago, Gil has spent the majority of his Spurs career on loan in La Liga, first with Valencia and then returning to his former side Sevilla.

According to Fabrizio Romano via his personal X account on January 9, Fiorentina and Feyenoord have expressed interest in securing the out-of-favour winger on loan during the January transfer window.

Reacting to this development, Wenham contends that a temporary switch is not the ideal path for the Spanish player.

In an exclusive conversation with Tottenham News, Wenham expressed his viewpoint: “Gil is an obvious one for me to leave the club. However, I don’t see the point in him heading out on another loan abroad.”

“Some people have said to me that a loan move would increase his value and the chances of him moving on permanently, but I don’t see how.”

“He literally went out on loan last year, won the UEFA Europa League with Sevilla and played a really good part in that, and it still didn’t lead to a permanent move.”

“Unfortunately, it looks like he is not going to make it at Tottenham. I think we’re at that crossroads now, and I just think the club needs to sell him, even if it’s quite a low initial fee, but there’s huge add-ons involved, that could perhaps work for a Spanish club.”

“He needs to go, I just don’t see him getting the game time, especially when Manor Solomon comes back from injury and obviously with Timo Werner now able to play in the exact same position as him.”
