Yves Bissouma admits he makes mistakes but is not afraid of what Spurs will do to him
Yves Bissouma is confident in Tottenham’s future success under Ange Postecoglou, despite admitting he has messed up this season.
The 27-year-old’s season with Spurs has been ups and downs. He got off to a great start, but he missed time due to a ban for five yellow cards and two red cards. In January, he also travelled to the Africa Cup of Nations with Mali. Bissouma has struggled to replicate his early season form under Postecoglou; he was benched at halftime of Sunday’s Tottenham victory over Nottingham Forest and has since been benched for Mali.
“The season got off to a great start. We were already in a tough position when we were limited due to several suspensions and injuries. The Spurs’ matchday programme had an interview with Bissouma, who stated, “Sometimes I make mistakes, because I’m not perfect and still learning. I know there’s more to come, but I’m happy and enjoying this role in the team.” Bissouma was speaking before Luton’s match.
This is the one time I feel completely in charge, powerful, and like myself, therefore I need to savour it and seize the day. Now that I’m carefree, I’m savouring every moment. But I never want to look back with regret, so I make an effort to feel wonderful.
After moving to Chelsea for £30 million from Brighton, the midfielder had a rough season under Antonio Conte due to a lack of playing time and an ankle injury. However, he sought a fresh start under Postecoglou last summer and showed signs of improvement in the first few months of the season.
As soon as it’s time to do something about it, I own up to it. “I was already training for this one when I was hurt at the end of last season,” he said. In my experience, Ange was very clear about his expectations of me and my place on the team the moment he arrived. I am grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with him and the rest of the band, and all I can do is listen carefully and do my best to provide music in his vision.
In regards to his position under Postecoglou, he elaborated: “It’s the way I like to play and it’s always good because it suits my style.” This is in reference to his goal of turning and defeating the opponent press. Receiving the ball, turning, and attempting to solve it is something I truly like. If it’s off, I’ll dribble to create room and figure something out. Receiving the ball and assisting my teammates are my primary responsibilities. I’m having a great time, I’m loving this part.
Being a part of the Premier League, widely recognised as one of the top leagues globally, is an incredible experience for me. Over the years, I’ve refined my playing style, and I want to keep doing it.
As a result of the new head coach’s vision and the abundance of youthful talent on the Spurs team, Bissouma is optimistic that they will achieve greatness.
This team deserves a lot, therefore we’re going to put in a lot of effort to get them where we want them to be. Because we have a lot of talented young players, I think we can win a lot of games. I am certain that we will achieve our goals as a club, and that is why I am not concerned about our future,” he said.
Becoming a Spurs player is a huge deal; being a part of this club is a gift, and I’m making the most of my time here. I’m putting my family, the club, the fans, and everyone else first by doing this. Whatever else matters in life or football, the most essential thing is that I love everyone here and that I feel love from everyone here as well. I hope this club achieves great things.
