Man Utd, Man City ‘make offers’ for Tottenham 16-year-old amid Dortmund competition

Manchester United and Manchester City have reportedly entered the race to sign 16-year-old Tottenham Hotspur prodigy Mikey Moore.

The 16-year-old has been hailed as one of the most exciting prospects to emerge from the Lilywhites academy and was brought into the first-team ranks by Ange Postecoglou in the closing stages of last season.

Moore made his competitive debut for Tottenham off the bench in their 2-0 Premier League loss to Manchester City, before also earning a late cameo against Sheffield United on the final day.

The attacker’s first-team baptism came after he excelled at Under-18 level for the Lilywhites in 2023-24, having a direct hand in a staggering 25 goals from just 14 games across the Under-18 Premier League and FA Youth Cup.

Moore registered an astounding 14 goals and eight assists in 12 Under-18 Premier League matches, and he had already played his first two matches for the club’s Under-21s in the 2022-23 campaign.

Manchester giants ‘submit’ contract offers to Moore

As the 2007-born starlet does not turn 17 until August, he remains under scholarship terms at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and is unable to pen a professional deal for a few more weeks due to FA regulations.

Tottenham are expected to do their utmost to agree a professional deal with Moore when he celebrates his birthday on August 11, but according to Football Insider, three European giants are hoping to prise him away from the English capital.

Premier League rivals Manchester United and Manchester City have reportedly both made contract offers to Moore’s camp, while Borussia Dortmund have also submitted a “massive” proposal.

Moore – who is Tottenham’s youngest-ever Premier League player – is not believed to have made a decision on his future yet, but Postecoglou is keen for him to be in and around the first team more next season.

As well as shining for Tottenham, the attacker has amassed 10 goals and four assists for England’s Under-17s, scoring four goals to finish just one strike behind Golden Boot winner Rodrigo Mora of Portugal.

Moore could replace senior compatriots in Manchester

It would not be a shock to see Moore decide that his immediate future belongs at Tottenham, but should he continue performing in the same vein and Spurs continue to fail in their pursuit of silverware, a move to Manchester eventually cannot be ruled out.

At Man United, the 16-year-old could very well become a long-term successor to either Jadon Sancho or Marcus Rashford, both of whom are being tipped to leave the club in the coming weeks.

Erik ten Hag‘s recent contract extension means that there should be no route back into the first team for Sancho, while Rashford could be allowed to depart for the right price due to the return of his struggles in 2023-24.

Meanwhile, Jack Grealish‘s future at Manchester City is being called into question, as he is still not justifying his £100m price tag three years on from his arrival from Aston Villa.
