Man City star to join Spurs as Levy would pay £20m for a steel player
Rumours suggest that Spurs are aiming for a high-profile transfer in the upcoming window.
The latest development links the Lilywhites with Manchester City’s star left-winger, Jack Grealish.
According to former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton, the North London outfit would consider bringing the English forward to the capital if City decide to sell him.
The report from Football Insider claims that there has been no final decision has been made as yet but people within the club regard Grealish as someone they are willing to sell in order to raise funds.
Grealish made his move to Pep Guardiola’s side in the summer of 2021 from Aston Villa for a staggering transfer fee of €117.50 million, marking the most expensive transfer of an English player at that time.
The 28-year-old signed a six-year contract with the Citizens, which currently has three years remaining and is set to expire in June 2027.
In an interview with Football Insider, Hutton shared his thoughts on the potential transfer of Grealish to Spurs during the upcoming summer window. He emphasised the player’s versatility, particularly in the number ten role.
However, Hutton pointed out the substantial financial hurdle, referring to City’s expensive acquisition of Grealish and the Lilywhites’ historical hesitance to spend big on players.
Hutton said (via Football Insider) :
“I think the number ten role is somewhere Grealish could play at Tottenham.
“If Maddison isn’t available or isn’t on form, you need the backup and he could come in.
“But, from what I know, it comes down to money. Man City paid £100m, and I was at Villa when Daniel Levy wasn’t willing to spend £20m to bring him from the Championship.
“He’s 28 now, but they’ll still want a substantial fee.
“Grealish goes in and makes all teams better, when he’s on form and playing at the top level.
“I think he may well be happy where he is for the moment.”
Grealish hasn’t consistently been in Guardiola’s teamsheet, starting in only 27% of the Premier League games this season.
The winger has made 36 appearances across all competitions, but his contributions have been limited to just 3 goals and 3 assists. (Transfermarkt)
Grealish certainly has the quality to elevate the level of any team, much like he did during his time at Aston Villa. However, facilitating the transfer would require Daniel Levy to invest a substantial amount of money to secure the winger.
