Desperate to make something happen – Romano makes Spurs transfer claim as deadline nears

Fabrizio Romano has indicated that the likelihood of a new midfield signing for Tottenham in this transfer window is low, unless there are developments involving Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Despite a strong start to the transfer window, with early acquisitions such as Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin, Spurs have not secured a new midfielder.

While the club has been linked with players like Conor Gallagher from Chelsea, Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa, and Blackburn’s Adam Wharton, Romano suggests that Tottenham is content with their transfer business, and any further incomings depend on the situation with Hojbjerg.

Tottenham initiated the transfer window with significant signings, bringing in Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin early on. Concurrently, the club managed to offload several fringe players through permanent or loan deals.

Despite the initial priority being a new midfielder, Spurs have yet to finalize such a signing during this transfer period. Various midfielders, including Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey, and Blackburn’s Adam Wharton, have been linked with Tottenham.

However, Romano emphasizes that Spurs are satisfied with their current transfer activities, and any further signings may hinge on developments with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

According to Romano, Tottenham does not appear desperate to secure a new midfielder in the closing days of the transfer window. The key condition for potential further activity revolves around Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. If an enticing offer for Hojbjerg arises in the final days, a transfer could materialize.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano conveyed, “I’m hearing that nothing is really concrete. They’re very happy with what they did with Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner. So I think Tottenham are not desperate to make something happen in the final days.

The only condition I always have, it was already in December, is about Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. So in case they receive an important proposal for Hojbjerg in the final days, it still can happen.”

As of the latest update on Hojbjerg, he has reportedly rejected an opportunity to join Lyon and expressed his desire to stay at Tottenham for the remainder of the season. Barring any changes before the deadline day, it seems unlikely that Spurs will make further signings in this window.
