Lucas Bergvall reveals his plan for the future ahead of Tottenham move and final Djurgarden game
Lucas Bergvall has stated his desire to finish his football career back in Sweden with Djurgarden. Making quite a name for himself in his homeland after wowing for the Allsvenskan club, Tottenham confirmed the signing of the 18-year-old at the beginning of February amid interest from Barcelona.
Bergvall put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal in north London, with the midfielder contracted to Spurs until the summer of 2029. The club also revealed at the time that the Swedish ace would make the move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on July 1.
Now one month away from linking up with Ange Postecoglou’s first-team squad for the very first time as this Saturday marks the beginning of June, it won’t be long at all until Bergvall is working with his new teammates at Hotspur Way. Bergvall’s final appearance for Djurgarden comes this weekend with the Swedish team hosting Hammarby on Sunday.
Following the conclusion of the match, Bergvall will head off on international duty for Sweden Under-21s as they face games against England and Croatia. Once his time on international duty comes to an end on Tuesday, June 11, the starlet will enjoy a break before arriving for Tottenham pre-season training.
It is perhaps a strange period for the player as he goes through a whole range of emotions with his final game for Djurgarden now just one day away ahead of his big move to the Premier League. Speaking to Fotboll Direkt (via Sport Witness), Bergvall opened up on his final Djurgarden appearance and his plan to return to Sweden in potentially 17 years’ time to finish his career.
“It will be special,” he said on his upcoming Tottenham move. “It feels depressing of course. I enjoy myself here, so it feels really sad to leave everyone here, but I hope to come back at some point.
“You start to realise that it is the last game here now for hopefully maybe 17 years. That is the plan. It is. I want to finish here, but then you don’t know if you will get injured or finish abroad. But yeah, that’s the plan.
“Djurgarden has meant an incredible amount to me and has been a big part of my life. So yes, the club has meant a lot.”
Bergvall will be looking to bow out in style by helping his club to another three points. The Swedish ace was on the scoresheet last weekend with a double in the team’s 3-1 win away at Mjallby.
The Stockholm-born player has six goals and five assists from his 18 appearances in all competitions for Djurgarden so far in 2024.
