King blasts £17M Tottenham player for what he did in win v Crystal Palace

Bryan King, a former employee of Tottenham, feels that Guglielmo Vicario was “at fault” for Crystal Palace’s goal on Saturday (2 March) versus Spurs.

At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Ange Postecoglou’s team defeated their South London rivals 3-1 to get back on the winning track.

But it wasn’t easy; halfway through the second half, Eberechi Eze—who has been linked to a transfer to Spurs—put Palace ahead with a stunning free kick. The hosts had to fight hard to get the three points.

Postecoglou’s day was ultimately saved by goals from Timo Werner, Cristian Romero, and Son Heung-min; nonetheless, King feels that if it weren’t for those three late goals, Vicario would have had a lot to answer for.

King remarked, “I thought Vicario was at fault for the goal; it was a goalkeeping error,” in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News. I felt that he expected too much of himself.

Even at full stretch, he never came close to the strike. He left too much room on the left side of the goal, where Eze placed the ball, and in my opinion, you don’t stand behind your wall.

Because of this, I would hold him accountable for the goal, and if Palace had managed to hang on and win 1-0, many hands would have been raised in his direction.

Guglielmo Vicario’s efforts at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season have earned Ange Postecoglou’s forgiveness. The Italian goalkeeper has faced criticism recently, and it’s possible that he made a mistake again versus Palace.

It would be difficult, however, to place too much blame on him after the 27-year-old’s mostly fantastic first Premier League season.

Even while he hasn’t always been perfect, since joining Spurs for an original £17.2 million deal from Serie A team Empoli, he has undoubtedly saved them more times than cost them (Sky Sports News, June 27).

Vicario is a player that very few Spurs fans would have heard of before he moved to England, but he has made a quick impression on the Premier League.

With many more years ahead of him, he was just crowned Goalkeeper of the Year at the London Football Awards (February 29). It seems like Spurs have their long-term goalie situation taken care of.

Guglielmo Vicario has had a spectacular debut for Tottenham. There aren’t many Premier League goalkeepers who have had a better season than Vicario, despite the occasional blunder.
