Never say never: Kieran Trippier has now a warning message to Tottenham Hotspur

Newcastle United achieved something unique last season, and Kieran Trippier is still certain that they can do it again.

Newcastle United’s 2022/23 season was spectacular, with Eddie Howe’s team exceeding expectations and qualifying for the Champions League. It was an incredible feat that the Toon players would want to repeat.

However, whether or not it occurs remains to be seen. The Magpies presently sit seventh in the Premier League, having defeated Nottingham Forest 3-2 on Saturday night. That was a huge three-pointer, as it puts Howe’s team 11 points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fourth place.

Newcastle will have significant challenges in returning to the top four, but Toon defender Kieran Trippier remains optimistic.

Trippier talked to the Chronicle after the victory against Nottingham Forest, and he still feels Champions League qualifying is possible.

“There’s still a lot of points to play for and we’re not going to give up on the top four,” he told reporters.

Of course, we know it will be tough to reduce that deficit, but in football, you never know; there will be many twists and turns between now and the conclusion of the season.

“We go into every game with a mentality to win, and it’s going to be hard to finish in the top four because of the teams who are up there, but we’ve still got to play most of them and you never say never.”

Newcastle defender issues a strong warning

Trippier has issued a warning to his old club Tottenham, who are presently in the last Champions League spot. They climbed up to fourth place this weekend, surpassing Aston Villa due to a last-gasp victory against Brighton. Villa lost 2-1 against Manchester United.

With 14 games remaining, Newcastle has plenty of opportunity to move up the league. And, as Trippier points out, Newcastle still has to play some of the teams above them. We still have games with Tottenham and Manchester United, which should help us cut the deficit.

However, there is a significant disparity. While Trippier has said unequivocally that the Magpies’ goal is to finish in the top four, these are just words. They must convert into victories, otherwise Newcastle’s Champions League campaign would be a flop.
