James Maddison sends two-word message to Giovani Lo Celso as Tottenham Hotspur teammate wins Copa America
A couple of Tottenham Hotspur players are champions once again after Argentina won Copa America with a 1-0 victory over Colombia.
Many Tottenham Hotspur fans are no doubt still reeling from England’s defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.
Spurs had no representation in the England squad this summer but many supporters will have been cheering England on.
It just wasn’t to be for England as Mikel Oyarzabal’s late winner sent the European Championship trophy to Spain.
Just hours later, the curtain also came down on Copa America with Argentina battling Colombia in Miami.
The game saw Lionel Messi go off with a nasty ankle injury before substitute Lautaro Martinez won it for Argentina in extra time.
Argentina won Copa America in 2021, the World Cup in 2022 and now another Copa America as Messi’s international career heads towards its end.
Giovani Lo Celso on Argentina win
This has been a simply incredible period for Argentina and their sheer dominance around Messi has been incredible to witness.
Some players who maybe haven’t hit incredible heights with their clubs end up shining for Argentina.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Giovani Lo Celso is a perfect example.
Signed in 2019, Lo Celso arrived with a fine reputation having proven himself to be a goalscoring threat with Real Betis.
That really hasn’t translated to life at Tottenham; from 16 goals in 45 games for Betis to 11 goals in 108 games for Tottenham.
After 18 months on loan at Villarreal and a bit-part campaign under Ange Postecoglou, Lo Celso may well be on the move this summer.
The 28-year-old has been featuring for Argentina this summer though and has been a key squad player throughout the Lionel Scaloni era.
Lo Celso came off the bench to help Argentina win Copa America and has now taken to Instagram to celebrate.
‘BiCampeones de América’ stated Lo Celso, celebrating winning back-to-back Copa America titles.
Lo Celso received comments from Tottenham teammates with Bryan Gil, Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro all showing their support.
James Maddison shared a two-word message, stating ‘amazing brother’ as Lo Celso and Argentina added even more silverware to their cabinet.
Maddison missed out on the England squad this summer and will have certainly been gutted to have watched the Three Lions lose out against Spain.
Maddison still showed love for his fellow Spurs midfielder, congratulating Lo Celso on more international success.
Lo Celso will now have a break before returning for pre-season training with Tottenham, but whether he ends the summer as a Spurs player remains to be seen.
