Ivan Toney accept to join Tottenham Hotspurs over West Ham – Journalist confirms
Brentford striker Ivan Toney would prefer a move to Tottenham this summer, rather than West Ham United, according to Alan Hutton.
Spurs have previously been linked with the 28-year-old ahead as Ange Postecoglou looks to strengthen his forward line with an out-and-out striker having lost Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last summer 6th of March.
Manchester United had also been credited with an interest, but new reports suggest the Red Devils have dropped out of the race which leaves the Lilywhites and West Ham as the two frontrunners to secure his signature [Football Transfers, 6 May].
Although Hutton thinks the Irons’ potential appointment of Julen Lopetegui may interest Toney, he believes the opportunity to play European football partnered with Postecoglou’s attacking style will see him prefer a move to Spurs.
“Maybe I’m a bit biased, but I think he would prefer a move to Tottenham,” Hutton told Tottenham News.
“I think playing in that stadium and the way that they play in this moment in time, I know it looks like Julen Lopetegui will be coming into West Ham and that could change things and Michail Antonio isn’t getting any younger so maybe they’re looking for somebody else to lead the line.
“He’d score goals for both teams, there’s no doubt about that. He’s scored a barrel load at Brentford, no disrespect to them but I think other teams will make more opportunities for him.
“I just think at this moment in time, Tottenham look like a team that is going to be chasing the top four, I’m not saying they’re definitely going to get in there, but they will be chasing and that could be a good opportunity for him.
He could be the difference between them getting in and not getting in, in future seasons.”
Will Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou sign Ivan Toney during the summer transfer window?
Spurs need a natural number nine this summer. While both Son Heung-min and Richarlison have impressed when called upon this term, they haven’t been able to be that consistent source of goals that Kane once was.
Toney has scored goals everywhere he has played in his career and there is little to suggest that wouldn’t be the case in North London. Daniel Levy and Postecoglou should be doing everything in their power to bring the English international in this summer.
While West Ham have enjoyed an excellent couple of seasons under David Moyes, no one is quite sure how Lopetegui will fit at the London Stadium and that level of uncertainty may put Toney off a summer switch.
Hopefully, the Lilywhites win this transfer race as it could be enough to push them back into the top four next year.
