He told me: Eric Dier shares what Daniel Levy has said about him and Harry Kane after leaving Tottenham

Eric Dier made a swift departure from Tottenham Hotspur in January, joining German powerhouse Bayern Munich to reunite with Harry Kane, without the chance to bid a proper farewell to the club he served for a decade.

The 30-year-old arrived at Spurs in 2014 from Sporting Lisbon, boasting 49 caps for England and the eligibility to represent Portugal.

During his tenure, he featured in a remarkable 365 matches for Tottenham, showcasing his versatility across various positions.

Initially deployed as a right-back, Dier transitioned to a holding midfield role and eventually settled as a central defender, particularly excelling during the Mauricio Pochettino era.

Despite facing challenges under Jose Mourinho, he experienced a resurgence under Antonio Conte, thriving in the heart of a back three.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s preference for pace in central defense, evidenced by the acquisition of Micky van de Ven, led to Dier’s decision to seek opportunities elsewhere.

Thomas Tuchel capitalized on the opportunity, securing Dier’s services on loan for Bayern Munich.

While the loan spell has been fruitful, with Dier impressing and setting new records, his departure from Tottenham after a decade came abruptly.

In an interview with The Athletic, Dier revealed his amicable relationship with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and disclosed discussions about a farewell event for him and Kane at the club.

Dier shared, “From speaking to Daniel, they plan for something for us (him and Kane) there. I don’t know, but he told me that was in the works.”

Tottenham fans may find it challenging to witness Dier play against their team after his long tenure, but seeing Kane potentially score against them could be even tougher.

With Tottenham currently sitting fifth in the Premier League, Champions League qualification is within reach, potentially setting the stage for a clash against Bayern Munich in European competition next season.

While Dier remains a Tottenham player for now, his remarks suggest a permanent move away is on the horizon.
