Gary Neville recently shared his thoughts on Son Heung-min from Tottenham Hotspur and talked about Liverpool’s defender, Virgil van Dijk.
Neville, the former Manchester United defender, expressed how impressed he’s been with Son’s recent performances.
During a commentary for Sky Sports at the Liverpool vs. Newcastle United match, Neville was asked about Virgil van Dijk’s form and ended up discussing his previous perception of Son Heung-min.
Surprisingly, Neville admitted that a while ago, he doubted Son’s abilities, thinking he might have passed his peak. However, watching players like van Dijk regain their form has made him reconsider his view on Son’s resurgence.
According to Neville, witnessing van Dijk’s comeback reminded him of how players like Son can reignite their careers unexpectedly. This evolution in perspective seems to highlight Son’s current prowess.
In my view, Son Heung-min remains an exceptional forward in the Premier League, showcasing world-class skills despite being 31 years old. His impact on Tottenham, with 12 goals and 5 assists in 20 Premier League matches this season, is proof of his enduring quality.
Even though Son’s age might suggest a decline, his consistent performance, leadership on the field, and contributions to the team continue to impress pundits like Alan Pardew, proving his enduring value in the league.
Last season’s stats show his consistency, with 10 goals and 6 assists in 33 league starts, and an impressive 23 goals plus 7 assists in the 2021-22 season, further solidifying his status as a top-tier player.
