‘Deserves a lot better’ – ‘Fantastic’ Tottenham man could have contract terminated

We are excited to have Paul Robinson, a former England goalkeeper, join us as an exclusive writer. Paul will provide his thoughts on the main topics of discussion at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium every week.

Hugo Lloris has “disappeared into the background” at Tottenham, but Paul Robinson thinks the Frenchman’s career shouldn’t stop there.

The BBC Sport analyst believes that the 37-year-old, who hasn’t played for the team this season after being left out of the preseason tour and losing the captain’s armband, may even have his contract canceled in order to play elsewhere.

Although he hasn’t ruled out an early exit, Robinson acknowledges that new starter Guglielmo Vicario has been “outstanding” since his arrival in the summer and wants a better send-off for the World Cup champion who made 444 appearances over his years of service.

“There could be an agreement between club and player that the contract was cancelled to allow him to move onto new pastures,” he remarked in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News.

Given what an incredible servant he has been to the club, I find it unfortunate that he would go in that manner.

“Everyone eventually catches up with father time, and when a manager enters the club, your face doesn’t fit, or something else goes wrong, and your time on earth ends.”

“Looks like it has worked for Hugo. Over the last two or three seasons, he has been prone to a few errors.

“And Vicario has been excellent at putting the gloves on since he entered.

“So, it seems that Hugo’s stint as the starting goalkeeper at Tottenham is coming to an end. Regarding his exit from the club, I believe he deserves far more than the way he’s now sort of blending into the background.

“While I wouldn’t mind seeing him wear a Spurs jersey once more, I would like to see him go out on a positive note.”

“He’ll be welcomed back to the club with open arms and very fond memories for the servant that he’s been to the club,” the statement reads, “whether that be in a playing, coaching, or spectator capacity.”
