Fabrizio Romano shares what he’s also heard about Tottenham’s talks for Eberechi Eze – report
The summer transfer window is heating up, and Tottenham Hotspur are making serious moves to strengthen their squad before the deadline.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is fully committed to backing new manager Thomas Frank with significant signings, and Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze has emerged as a top target.
Tottenham’s need for a creative midfielder was already apparent, but James Maddison’s long-term injury has turned the situation urgent.
The England international’s ACL rupture leaves a glaring hole in Spurs’ attacking setup, and the club is now pushing hard to secure Eze as their marquee solution.
This isn’t the first time Spurs have targeted a dynamic No. 10 this summer. Just last month, they were on the verge of signing Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest in a £60 million deal, but unexpected complications—including legal threats—derailed the move.
Gibbs-White instead committed his future to Forest with a new contract, forcing Tottenham to shift their focus elsewhere.

Eze, who enjoyed a standout season with Palace, fits the profile perfectly. The 27-year-old contributed 14 goals and 11 assists across all competitions, including the FA Cup final winner against Manchester City a historic moment that secured Palace’s first major trophy.
His ability to drive forward, create chances, and deliver in big moments has made him one of the most sought-after midfielders in the Premier League.
However, negotiations won’t be straightforward. Palace are holding firm on their valuation, demanding close to the £68 million release clause in Eze’s contract even though it has technically expired.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are hoping to structure a deal closer to the £55 million they paid for Mohammed Kudus earlier this summer.
Despite the financial hurdles, there’s optimism at Spurs. Journalist Ben Jacobs reports that while Arsenal have also shown interest in Eze, the player hasn’t ruled out a move to North London.
Tottenham believe they can convince him to join their project, especially with the promise of regular minutes in Maddison’s absence.

In a promising update, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Spurs are ready to open formal talks with Palace. He also revealed that Eze is open to the switch, provided the two clubs can reach an agreement.
“Tottenham are prepared to open formal talks with Crystal Palace for Eberechi Eze,” Romano wrote. “The plan to return to the table reported two days ago is 100% confirmed… and also confirmed that Eze would be keen on a move if the two clubs can agree on a fee.”
What makes this potential signing even more exciting for Spurs fans is that it wouldn’t interfere with their pursuit of Manchester City winger Savinho.
The Brazilian is viewed as a separate target, meaning Tottenham could still add both players to their squad before the window closes.
Levy and technical director Johan Lange are working swiftly to address multiple gaps in the squad. Not only must they replace Maddison’s creativity, but they also need to fill the void left by Son Heung-min’s emotional departure to LAFC.
Eze’s versatility—capable of playing as a No. 10 or on the wing—makes him an ideal candidate to help cover both roles.
Statistically, Eze was Palace’s most influential attacker last season, averaging more shots, key passes, and successful dribbles per 90 minutes than any of his teammates.
His ability to unlock defenses and perform under pressure would add a new dimension to Tottenham’s attack, offering Frank a genuine game-changer in the final third.
With Arsenal also lurking, Spurs are determined to act quickly and secure Eze before their rivals can make a move.
If they succeed, it could be one of the signings of the summer—a statement of intent that proves Tottenham are serious about competing at the highest level.
As negotiations progress, all eyes will be on whether Levy can broker a deal that satisfies Palace while bringing Eze to N17. One thing is certain: if this transfer goes through, it could transform Tottenham’s season.
