Experienced star admits to feeling rusty after not playing for last 10 months at Spurs

Hugo Lloris, who hasn’t played professional football in 10 months, has acknowledged that he was not entirely happy with his Los Angeles FC debut and that he is still a bit rusty.

In the team’s season opener against the Seattle Sounders, Lloris made his Major League Soccer debut. The Californians prevailed 2-1 thanks to goals scored both before and after the break.

The Frenchman, who had not played for Tottenham since the team’s 6-1 loss to Newcastle United in April of last year, acknowledged in a recent interview with The Athletic that he had struggled during the previous six months at the club despite having played frequently throughout his early career.

The World Cup winner’s performance on Sunday pleased LA head coach Steve Cherundolo, who said that the goalie calmed his team’s defense.

According to Football.London, he said the following about the 37-year-old: “He has a calmness to him, doesn’t feel pressured, has real-time answers for the guys and input.” We’ve felt secure as a team and as a back line thanks to him for the previous several years, but I think we have a bit more now.

The former captain of Tottenham, meanwhile, was not too complimentary of his own performance, saying that he is still getting used to playing with his new teammates and improving his match sharpness.

Regarding his debut, Lloris said, “To be very honest, I was not particularly thrilled with my distribution today because we worked over things in training, but there was a lot of misunderstanding between us when we were on the pitch today. However, that is typical. Even though we’re still getting to know one another, I feel wonderful.

“Physically, I’m not 100% yet, as I know. Although I haven’t played in ten months, I know I also need to get used to the competition’s rhythm. Despite this, I felt pleased about my performance today. I maintained my composure and attempted to guide the back four, but they excelled. We were strong at every critical juncture in the game, and we can build on that.

Since Lloris had not played football for over a year, there was bound to be some rustiness. Over the course of the season, I’m sure the former Tottenham player will save a ton of points for LAFC.
