Exclusive: Big update on Tottenham Qatar takeover

According to sources speaking to Football Insider, Qatar is not likely to reconsider a takeover bid for Tottenham Hotspur unless it involves acquiring a majority stake in the club.

This insight follows Spurs chairman Daniel Levy’s confirmation, via a statement in the club’s 2022-23 accounts, that discussions have taken place with potential investors.

Levy’s statement revealed ongoing discussions with prospective investors, with Rothschild & Co acting as advisors.

However, sources indicate that Spurs are inclined towards a minority investment scenario, with existing board members participating in a long-term project.

Tottenham’s ownership structure currently sees Enic holding an 87 percent stake, led by Joe Lewis, while Levy himself owns a minority share in the company.

Despite previous talks with Qatar investors in 2022, it seems the preference for a majority takeover deal remains a key sticking point for Qatari interests.

While Qatari investors maintain an interest in acquiring a stake in a Premier League club, their preference for a majority ownership position remains steadfast.

As things stand, it appears that a minority deal involving US groups is the most probable outcome of Tottenham’s investment discussions.

Tottenham’s recent financial performance, boasting a club-record revenue of £550 million, with a notable £117 million generated from matchday income, positions them as an appealing prospect for potential investors.
