Who is Sheikh Abdullah and would Daniel Levy sell Tottenham as the pair meet in London

The photo of Sheikh Abdullah with chairman Daniel Levy has probably raised questions among Tottenham supporters about the club’s future.

In 2023, Levy gave a speech in which he discussed his potential willingness to sell Spurs.

Spurs supporters may have been interested in recent social media activities since club chairman Daniel Levy was seen with Sheikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Mualla.

The last few years in north London have been quite busy. Spurs have gone from being in the running for a Champions League title and building the nation’s most advanced stadium to appointing and dismissing managers with varying degrees of success.

Levy is still at the top of the leadership. Despite his reputation as one of the sport’s fiercest negotiators, the 62-year-old’s desperate pursuit of trophies has not yet resulted in any success. Even if there isn’t any concrete proof that he would be willing to sell the team or that Sheikh Abdullah is likely to purchase Spurs, a photo of the two of them together has many curious about what Levy and Spurs’ future holds.

The owner of Tottenham may be seen shaking hands with Sheikh Abdullah in an Instagram snap. With the description, “His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Mualla, Deputy Ruler of Umm Al Quwain Daniel Levy, CEO of English club Tottenham Hotspur,” the picture surfaced on the Sheikh’s personal account.

The purpose of the conference and its origins are still unknown. But many are wondering whether this means Levy is considering selling Spurs soon, as foreign countries like Saudi Arabia have recently made football-related investments.

This meeting may be the start of Levy exploring the possibility of taking over the club, even if there are no reports that Sheikh Abdullah is in any kind of negotiations to buy it. Before selling Sir Jim Ratcliffe a minority interest in Manchester United, the Glazer family used a similar tactic.

Sheikh Abdullah: who is he?

Since 2004, the Sheikh has occupied his present position of authority.

While most football fans may not be aware with Sheikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Mualla, the 52-year-old is well-known in the United Arab Emirates.

Abdullah, who was born into Emirati aristocracy, is Umm Al Quwain’s deputy ruler at the moment. According to the World Population Review, the city has little less than 45,000 inhabitants, making it the seventh most inhabited in the area. The Sheikh took charge of Umm Al Quwain’s police and public security in 1997 after completing part of his studies in the UK.

Abdullah’s most notable accomplishment at that time was supervising the construction of a water park that still exists today. According to Tripadvisor, it’s ‘a perfect spot for family pleasure.’ His father, who died in 2009, appointed him to the position of Deputy Ruler of the city in 2004. He now fulfills his duties under his elder brother, who took the oath of office in 2009 as Umm Al Quwain’s ruler.

One of Sheikh Abdullah’s more recent endeavors was him and his cousin opening a clinic in 2017 to assist locals who struggle with dyslexia. The Sheikh could have been speaking on behalf of another Emirati organization even though he has never competed professionally. The United Arab Emirates is heavily involved in professional football; the Abu Dhabi group owns a number of football teams, most notably Manchester City, the European champions.

Levy’s position on the Spurs sale
The present owner is open to any proposal that will help the team.

It doesn’t seem plausible that Levy will entertain selling Spurs. much less plausible in light of the expenditures made on the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, which debuted almost five years ago. But it doesn’t imply it can’t happen.

Speaking in 2023 (via football.london), Levy said that he would entertain a credible offer to purchase the team. He declared that:

“While I don’t really want to leave Tottenham, I do have a responsibility to take into account any offers that may be made.

“What’s best for the club comes before me. Our ownership is made up of 30,000 stockholders, or around 13.5%. This club is managed by us like a public corporation.

“The Tottenham board will take into consideration any meaningful proposals from individuals, in consultation with our consultants. We would also be open to anything if we thought it would benefit the club.”

GIVEMESPORT KEY STATISTIC: Daniel Levy, who assumed ownership of a Premier League franchise in 2001, is now the owner with the longest tenure.

The controversy surrounding Levy’s motivations for meeting with Sheikh Abdullah will only become worse as a result of his failure to put an end to a potential ownership change at the club.

Sheikh Abdullah has not shown any interest in purchasing Tottenham. But if Levy decides to sell them, the Premier League team will probably get many of bids.

There have been rumors circulating that Sheikh Jassim, the guy who tried to manage Manchester United’s whole sale in 2023, may make a comeback and make a bid to purchase the London team. The Glazer family rejected a £5 billion deal from the Qatari, and Jassim’s agents then issued a statement implying that the Americans were not interested in a complete sale.

INEOS chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe was granted a minority ownership in the club instead, and he does not think Jassim would make a Spurs bid anytime soon.

Iranian Jahm Najafi is another name that has been mentioned in connection with a possible takeover of the team. The head of MSP Sports, Najafi, is connected to other European clubs, including as the Portuguese squad GD Estoril and the German team FC Augsburg. He would be prepared to pay more than £3 billion to take over Tottenham as the next owner. He also has a small ownership interest in the NBA franchise, the Phoenix Suns.
