“Out for six months” – Latest injury could be a “serious blow” for Postecoglou’s side, says former Spurs man
Former Tottenham scout Bryan King recently voiced his concerns over Cristian Romero’s injury, which emerged during Spurs’ hard-fought 4-1 victory over Aston Villa.
The win, although impressive, didn’t come without setbacks for manager Ange Postecoglou, as it highlighted injury woes that could significantly impact Tottenham’s defensive lineup.
Tottenham already entered the match missing a key defensive figure in Micky van de Ven, who is sidelined for a month due to a hamstring injury sustained during Spurs’ League Cup victory over Manchester City.
This left Postecoglou with limited options at the back. During the Villa game, Romero, the team’s vice-captain and another crucial player in the defense, had to be subbed off after sustaining what appeared to be a bone injury to his right toe.
Bryan King, reflecting on Romero’s situation, expressed his concerns over the nature of the injury, noting that bone injuries can be particularly severe and potentially long-term.
In an interview with Tottenham News, King explained the complexity of such injuries, particularly in high-impact sports like football, where even a seemingly minor bone injury can spell a lengthy recovery period.
He acknowledged that if Romero’s injury involves a broken bone, recovery could potentially take up to six months.
King emphasized the importance of a quick and accurate diagnosis, pointing out the range of possibilities with bone injuries. As he explained, “When we start talking about bone injuries, it could be a fracture, a break, or maybe it is just heavily bruised.”
This wide spectrum means that any definitive assessment will be crucial in determining the timeline for Romero’s return. King stressed the significance of Romero’s presence on the field, noting, “Obviously you don’t want any player of that quality out for a long time.”
He highlighted that while a severely bruised bone might only sideline Romero for a couple of weeks, a fracture or break could result in an absence spanning several months.
The sooner we find out the extent of it, the easier it will be to speculate.”
His injury has reportedly set off alarm bells in Argentina ahead of the final international break of the year.Journalist Gaston Edul shared an encouraging update, claiming that it may not be a bone injury, which would mean he could be back in action in a week or so.Tottenham fans will be hoping that the injury is not a serious one and that he is back in action after the international break.
Tottenham’s defensive depth will be tested, especially if Romero’s recovery takes longer than initially hoped. The timing of his potential absence also aligns with critical fixtures for Spurs, making his availability all the more crucial to Postecoglou’s plans moving forward.
