Agent says player rejected ‘twice as much’ to join Tottenham – Hints at Spurs transfer plans
Radu Drăgușin has struggled for playing time at Tottenham Hotspur since his arrival from Genoa in the winter transfer window.
With limited opportunities to showcase his talent, the young center-back is considering a potential loan move to Napoli this summer.
Drăgușin has only managed to clock 424 minutes across nine league appearances for Tottenham, highlighting the challenges he has faced in securing a regular spot in the starting lineup.
Despite his limited game time, the Romanian defender has shown glimpses of his potential when given the chance.
On May 30th, Area Napoli reported that Drăgușin is contemplating a loan move to Napoli during the summer transfer window.
This speculation gained traction following Drăgușin’s standout performance in Romania’s 3-0 victory over Ukraine at the Euros, where he played the full 90 minutes.
Following Romania’s win, Drăgușin’s agent, Florin Manea, revealed to TV Play that Napoli had scouts present at the match. Manea emphasized Drăgușin’s potential, stating, “Drăgușin? What can I say, it doesn’t surprise me anymore because I know how he works. If he continues like this, he could become one of the best central defenders in the world.”
Manea mentioned that while Napoli scouts were initially there to observe Ukraine striker Artem Dovbyk, they also took note of Drăgușin’s impressive performance.
He further added, “I think that Chiellini and Bonucci are proud of Drăgușin, they were very important for his growth when he was at Juventus.”
Despite his struggles for regular minutes, Manea insists that joining Tottenham was the right decision for Drăgușin. He explained, “With Drăgușin, we always made the right choices.
His childhood dream was to play in the Premier League. Last summer, Bayern offered him twice as much, but he chose Tottenham. He thinks about his career; he is a very intelligent footballer.”
Recent reports from the Italian media indicate that Tottenham is interested in Bologna center-back Riccardo Calafiori. However, Manea suggests that Tottenham is unlikely to pursue Calafiori, as they are looking for a different type of defender.
“Tottenham on Calafiori? From what I know, Spurs aren’t looking for a pure central defender; they are more looking for a flexible defender. In any case, Drăgușin is ready for anything; he is not afraid of competition,” Manea stated.
Manea remains confident in Drăgușin’s abilities and potential for growth. He noted, “I’m not worried because such a strong defender cannot be stopped; his growth cannot be slowed down.
However, Tottenham has always placed their trust in him, and he has faced very strong attackers in Serie A. The only one who seriously put him in difficulty was Lautaro, but we’re talking about when Drăgușin played for Salernitana.”
Radu Drăgușin’s limited playing time at Tottenham Hoķòtspur has led to speculation about a potential loan move to Napoli. With interest from Serie A and his agent’s confidence in his abilities, Drăgușin’s future remains bright.
As Tottenham continues to search for defensive reinforcements, Drăgușin’s development and potential move could be pivotal in his career progression. For now, fans will watch closely to see how these transfer window dynamics unfold and what lies ahead for the promising Romanian center-back.
