Ange call backfires as £30M Tottenham star blasted Really Bad display today

Son Heung-min was given his first start of 2024 by Ange Postecoglou, but the move backfired as Tottenham fell to Wolves 2-1.

On Saturday, February 17, Spurs’ five-game winning streak in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium came to an end as they were ranked second.

On a dismal day for Tottenham, Joao Gomes scored a pair of goals either side of Dejan Kulusevski’s temporary equalizer.

Despite being employed as the game’s main point until the middle of the last quarter, Son in particular struggled, managing only 56 touches [Sofascore].

Son Heung-min is not playing for Tottenham today.

The agile forward’s pass accuracy return of 81 percent was disappointing since he also misfired on nine of his 47 deliveries.

To put things in context, no Spurs player who participated in the whole ninety minutes had a lower number.

While Tottenham chased a goal for the most of the match, Son was unable to record a single shot.

Additionally, he only managed one critical pass, which is below his 1.8 season average, indicating that he was not performing at his typical level [WhoScored].

Apart from the offensive aspect of the match, Son should have done much more to prevent Gomes from scoring Wolves’ first goal in the first half.

Perry Groves brought attention to the South Korean international’s inability to cut out a delivery into the box during talkSPORT’s broadcast.

Groves said [February 17, 3:45 p.m.] that Son Heung-min had really dipped away from the ball and should have been the one attacking it.

“There isn’t a player available there. Tottenham has played terribly, especially Son.

Richarlison battles the Wolves as well.
Son was not the only one having a bad day: Richarlison made three efforts but was unable to locate the target.

The Brazilian was very erroneous up top, with an anticipated goals (xG) return of 0.43 (Bentancur had a better number, 0.47).

Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski scored a goal against Wolves.

In his 71 minutes on the field, Richarlison did not record a single dribble and only prevailed in two of the five aerial duels.

Only Arsenal (55) has ever had a longer streak of scoring in Premier League games than Spurs (37), but one goal was insufficient.

Unfortunately for Postecoglou, some subpar play on his part—Son was at fault in both areas—proved to be expensive.
