Ange offer former bid to sign Celtic Sensation who’s better than Son Heun-ming this season
Ange Postecoglou himself has suggested that a squad restructuring is in order, and it doesn’t take a footballing genius to tell you where a number of Spurs’ problems lie.
Indeed, Tottenham have some serious issues in their midfield at the moment, and luckily, it sounds as though a new signing could be on the way to address these problems.
Tottenham want Matt O’Riley
According to GiveMeSport, Tottenham are interested in signing Matt O’Riley.
O’Riley has been absolutely fantastic for Celtic this season, grabbing 15 goals and 12 assists in the Scottish Premiership.
That tally of 27 goal contributions in the league is higher than any Spurs player has managed this season, and he’s done that while playing in the midfield.
O’Riley is no stranger to life in London having come up through Fulham’s academy, and perhaps he would fancy a move back to the English capital.
Ange Postecoglou knows O’Riley well
These links do make a lot of sense as Ange Postecoglou knows Matt O’Riley very well from his time at Celtic.
In fact, it was Postecoglou who signed O’Riley at Celtic from MK Dons back in 2022 for just £1.5m.
The midfielder has improved drastically since then, becoming a fully-fledged international with Denmark, and now, he’s valued at around £25m according to this report.
A reunion with Postecoglou could be on the cards for the midfielder, and if he were to join Tottenham it would be interesting to see what sort of role he would play.
As his goal return would suggest, O’Riley has been playing a more advanced role this season, while, under Postecoglou, he sat slightly deeper, playing more akin to a player like Yves Bissouma than James Maddison.
Given Spurs’ need for midfield reinforcements this summer, this could be a clever signing by the north London club.
