Ange loves him: Spurs to banish Lo Celso with late move for Exceptional £30M gem

Tottenham Hotspur is well ahead of the rest of the clubs trying to complete transfers in January. They have already signed Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner, and are now focused on signing a new player to finish their efforts.

Because Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Biossouma are both at AFCON and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is likely to leave, Ange Postecoglou will need to find a replacement. A new target has been chosen.

Spurs want to sign a playmaker this month

According to Star Gazetesi (via Football 365), Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is ready to change his mind about the transfer market and go ahead with a move for Fenerbahce winger Sebastian Szymanski. Postecoglou is said to have a lot of respect for the player.

This month, the main goal has been Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, but it looks like he won’t be able to leave this month because Levy is now ready to “do anything” to get Szymanski.

Great scorer is one of three Richarlison upgrades Spurs could sign in 2024.
The Poland international, who is worth €35m (£30m), has been in great shape over the past few years and is said to have persuaded the Lilywhites to send scouts to watch him play.

Giovani Lo Celso would be sent away by Sebastian Szymanski

Since the beginning of the 2023–24 season, Tottenham has shown that they can do well in the Premier League again. This comes after a tough year in which they finished eighth and Harry Kane was sold to Bayern Munich.

But Postecgolou’s hiring has changed everything, and now it feels like a bright new phase has begun. The lack of depth was the main reason for a drop in form before the holidays.

Star playmaker James Maddison is about to come back from an injury that kept him out for a few months. Szymanski would not get in the way of the England star’s playing time, but it could be the end for Giovani Lo Celso, whose contract ends in 2025 and who has been linked with a move away this season despite having some success with the first team.

The Argentine is one of the most creative midfielders in the world. According to FBref, he is in the top 1% of his positional peers across Europe’s top five teams for assists, pass success, and advanced passes. He is also in the top 8% for making shots and the top 4% for tackles per 90.

But the 27-year-old has only played four Premier League games under Postecoglou’s leadership, even though Maddison was hurt. This could mean that he has to leave, with Szymanski being the right option.

The 24-year-old signed with his Turkish team in the summer after winning the Dutch Eredivisie with Feyenoord last season. Scout Antonio Mango called him a “exceptional” player.

According to Sofascore, the artistic star has scored 12 goals and set up 14 others in 33 games since the summer. He has also helped defend the team by making an average of 2.3 tackles and 4.3 duels in the Turkish Super Lig.

This shows that he can put on the well-rounded games needed to do well in the Premier League, which is good because Lo Celso is always defending.

He’s also in the top 4% of midfielders in leagues like the Turkish top flight for goals, the top 5% for assists, and the top 14% for actions that lead to shots per 90 minutes, so it’s clear that he’s also pretty good at scoring.

This season, Lo Celso is doing a good job, but Szymanski is younger and just as fast, if not faster. He would be a great addition to a Tottenham team that is on the rise.
