Ange could fix Spurs midfield by boldly dropping Maddison for unbelievable star
When they were in the Premier League, James Maddison was with Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou.
Tottenham Hotspur failed to build on their 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The team has been a little inconsistent lately.
A very depressing and frustrating 4-0 loss to Newcastle United was the latest blow for the Lilywhites.
Overall, Ange Postecoglou’s team has started to lose their flow, especially in the middle of the field. This is shown by the fact that the manager has made a lot of changes to the centre in the last two games.
James Maddison is the only player who has stayed on the team, but is it time for the number ten to leave too?
Recent shows by James Maddison
This whole season, Maddison’s £40 million move from Leicester City to Tottenham has been seen as a great deal, and rightfully so. But he hasn’t been himself lately.
The England player has now gone five games without setting up a goal, and Spurs’ normally fluid attack has been looking a little flat lately.
This happened again against the Magpies. The Evening Standard gave Maddison a terrible 4/10 grade for his play and said this:
She wants to be held to high standards, so she has to share some of the blame for Spurs’ broken attack. Bad decisions, like taking long-range shots that wasted the ball.
Postecoglou has the right player on the bench ready to take Maddison’s place if he decides that he needs to rest or be dropped.
The wild card for Spurs is ready to shine.
The boss has made it clear that the middle hasn’t done as well as he would have liked and needed, but he’s also not afraid to show his anger.
Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr were both taken off by Postecoglou at halftime against Forest. He did the same thing to the starting pair against Eddie Howe’s team, but this time it was just before the hour mark.

He might choose a 4-3-3 setup in the next few weeks, which is where Giovani Lo Celso comes in.
The Argentine playmaker has only played four Premier League games this season, mostly when Maddison wasn’t available. But when he has been on the field, he has been great, scoring two goals and setting up two others.
Lo Celso’s most recent Premier League start, against Bournemouth, shows that he is very creative. Not as much as Maddison, but enough to make him a threat to the other team, as shown by his two goals.
But what really impresses me is how well he can keep the ball and run the game for his team. The former Paris Saint-Germain star even made all of his passes when he started against Manchester City earlier this season.
Lo Celso would also make it harder for opponents to get around the middle because he can easily read the game, press hard, and win his own fights.
Being able to make four stops, not give the ball away once, and win an amazing eleven duels shows that he works hard defending, which is why writer Alex Mitton called him a “unbelievable” player.
Giovani Lo Celso is happy for Tottenham But there is still one thing that needs to be said: Is Postecoglou ready to give Lo Celso a chance instead of Maddison?
