‘Absolutely pointless’ – Pundit slams Tottenham, players hated it

Just hours after the Premier League season ended, Paul Robinson blasted Tottenham’s post-season tour to Australia.

Spurs have already played their first game of the trip, drawing 1-1 with Newcastle United at Melbourne Cricket Ground before losing on penalties. Next up are games against Bayern Munich and Vissel Kobe.

Speaking exclusively with Tottenham News, Robinson is aware of the tour’s financial advantages but is more worried about the players’ well-being and the “meaningless” character of the friendlies.

You may view this Tottenham trip in two different ways. Playing it, you detested it. I had international service at the periods my teams were on post-season tours, so I was fortunate to get away with not travelling, he said.

“The players would detest it; it is the last thing they would want. They had to go to the other side of the globe to play a worthless game against a group of players who are feeling precisely the same way, having just completed the season.

They might be on vacation after a demanding season and the approaching European Championships. It is the very last thing they would have chosen to do.

The club has said that the players are contracted, and I have seen players attempt to leave them in the past. The players are either penalised for not going or they do a U-turn and head out. It really bugs gamers. All they stand to gain is weariness and maybe damage.

On the other hand, the team will profit financially from a Premier League game played in Australia, therefore bringing the game to the non-traveling supporters.

I have direct experience with it. Seventy thousand people saw the game and the bond between the team and its fans.

Why the club does it makes perfect sense to me. You didn’t like doing it, however, from a player’s perspective. Just a useless game.

After losing to Newcastle United, Tottenham continues their post-season tour.

Football is undoubtedly becoming more of a business than simply a sport, and Daniel Levy is the maestro of raising money via various commercial initiatives.

Age Postecoglou, manager of Tottenham
Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham team have taken out for Australia. The Tottenham owner has every right to do as he keeps amassing money and riches via a variety of means.

Robinson makes valid comments, however. Fans may get closer to the team, but players won’t be performing at their best in a friendly shortly after the season concludes.
