‘People are mistaken about Sonny’ – Postecoglou defends Son’s role in Korea scuffle

Son Heung-min’s involvement in the alleged brawl at the South Korean camp has been justified, according to Ange Postecoglou, who maintains that the forward was attempting to establish clear guidelines.

Over the last week, there have been several reports claiming that on the eve of Korea’s 2-0 loss to Jordan in the Asian Cup semi-final, there was a brawl in the Korean camp.

The dispute reportedly began when Son, a Tottenham player who saw the game as a chance for the team to interact, objected to several of the younger players leaving dinner early to play ping-pong (The Sun).

The 31-year-old dislocated his finger while attempting to break up a quarrel that started among his colleagues, as many sources have subsequently revealed (Football.London).

Heung-min Son is an inspiration both on and off the field.

Postecoglou has now said that his player was defending his beliefs, adding that Son doesn’t back down from doing the right thing even if it means it won’t be well-liked by his teammates.

The Daily Mail quoted the Australian as saying, “That’s what leadership is all about.” Being a leader is standing up for what you believe is right when you see it because it’s best for the group, not about trying to win people over and make them happy.

People might have misconceptions about Sonny at times. He is a kind, upbeat man by nature, and everyone really loves him. He always has a smile on his face. Though he wants to win, he is very respectful and kind.

“I’ve seen him do it around here, and he doesn’t want standards to slide. He will voice his opinion if anything is incorrect. It’s not always the fashionable thing to do. That may sometimes land you in hot water with the team, the coaches, or the club.

But as a leader, you should take a firm stance on this if you believe it to be the proper course of action. This commitment to excellence carries over into leadership.
