This is the point: Alasdair Gold shares what he is hearing about Rodrigo Bentancur within Tottenham

Journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed when Tottenham Hotspur officials hope fans will see the best of Rodrigo Bentancur again as he works his way back to full health.

Rodrigo Bentancur has had a rough twelve months. He was one of the few bright spots of last season, scoring five Premier League goals before his season was cut short due to injury.

Tottenham supporters had a huge lift when the Uruguayan returned to the side in late October. However, Bentancur’s recovery was short-lived, as he was faced with a severe challenge from Matty Cash only a month later.

Rodrigo Bentancur isn’t likely to recover his best form for Tottenham until next season.

There were worries that Bentancur might be absent until February. However, the 26-year-old surprised everyone again by playing against Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve.

Bentancur has had a handful of outstanding performances since his comeback. However, there are indications that he has not yet regained his full potential.

Tottenham seems unconcerned, however. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold said that it might be some time before he returns to his prior heights.

“From what I understand from people within the club, as he was going through his rehabilitation and getting towards the end of it, there was this feeling last year that you weren’t going to see the best version of Rodrigo Bentancur until next season, so the 24/25 season,” he was quoted as saying.

“And that’s not due to him; it’s just because after a terrible, long-term injury, your body has to heal itself. And it’s almost as if the athlete has to re-educate themselves on everything that was natural and instinctual, since they haven’t done it in a long time, or have scarcely done it at all.”

Spurs no longer depend on the Uruguayan to rescue them.

Since Bentancur was out, Tottenham has undergone significant changes. Antonio Conte left, and a disappointing season came to a close.

Ange Postecoglou has poured new vitality into the club. Tottenham are currently riding high. Their fans have every reason to be optimistic about their future.

As a result, Bentancur is under less pressure at this point in his return. Tottenham seems to have a lot of players that can help them win in every circumstance.

And, although Bentancur is obviously eager to contribute all he can to the cause, having his weight reduced may be just what he needs.
