“He has not signed anything” – Club edge into public transfer battle with Tottenham, snipes about money
Tottenham Hotspur is edging closer to securing a deal for Lucas Bergvall, a player who has been on the radar of Barcelona.
The La Liga side has been in pursuit of the Djurgårdens IF youngster, but it appears that Spurs are on the verge of winning the race for his signature.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta addressed the ongoing battle with Tottenham for the 18-year-old’s signing during an interview with RAC1.
According to Laporta, Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has been an admirer of the Swedish international for an extended period. Despite their interest, Laporta confirmed that Barcelona won’t match Tottenham’s financial proposal.
While reports elsewhere have suggested that Bergvall will travel to London for a medical with Tottenham, the La Liga side is not giving up on the operation just yet.
Laporta acknowledged the player’s quality and the longstanding interest from Deco but emphasized that Barcelona won’t match the financial offer made by the north London club.
He mentioned that their proposal involved the player joining the reserve team while working with the dynamics of the first team. However, the financial terms offered by Tottenham seem to exceed what Barcelona is willing to commit.
With Barcelona unwilling to match Tottenham’s financial offer, the likelihood of hijacking the deal for Bergvall seems remote.
Earlier reports hinted that Spurs might have offered a more attractive commission to the agent, potentially influencing the teenager to choose Ange Postecoglou’s side over Barcelona.
As the negotiations progress, Tottenham appears poised to secure the signing of Lucas Bergvall, adding another promising talent to their ranks.
