Tottenham embrace chaos as 3 goal salvo overturns Brentford's sure footed start

Tottenham welcomes the chaos as a three-goal barrage undoes Brentford’s strong start. Spurs (0) 3 Johnson 49, Udogie 48, and Richarlison 56. Maupay scored two goals for Brentford, and Toney scored 67.

Spurs went from being a disorganized and confused team to one with punch and purpose as they came back from being behind at halftime to destroy Brentford.

Ange Postecoglou’s team was nothing like the dull team we saw in the first half, and they took control with three goals in the first eight minutes after the break.

Happiness and front-foot football seemed to be the main themes. A quick run into the area and pass with Timo Werner earned First Destiny Udogie a penalty. When the ball bounced back to him, he scored with ease.

Soon after the break, Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and Brennan Johnson were both substituted, and it only took a minute for Johnson to score from a Werner cross at the far post. After a Maddison shot was charged down, Richarlison smashed in from close range, putting the Bees up 6–7.

Ivan Toney was teased by home fans who said, “You should have maxed out!” In the first half, there was a lot of taunting. When Neal Maupay scored the first goal for the Bees, celebrations included throwing darts at James Maddison, which is something he usually does when he scores.

It made things very bad between the teams, and Spurs’ focus was taken off the ball because Maupay’s wind-ups seemed to hurt them.

At that point, it should have been over, but Udogie’s pass went astray, giving Toney a free pot and goal. With twenty minutes left in the game, it was back to business. Still, Vicario had to make a save on a shot from substitute Shandon Baptiste in extra time to keep it out of the net.

After twenty-five minutes, the Bees shocked Spurs by going ahead.

Toney made a quick break from half-field that sent the striker all the way to Guglielmo Vicario. The Italian saved the ball, but it fell to Maupay, who scuffed it home. Cristian Romero couldn’t stop the Frenchman from putting the finishing touch on it.

Spurs had a good start, but now they were behind. What made things even worse was that Maupay and Toney made fun of Maddison by throwing fake darts into the South Stand.

A close call for offside stopped Mads Roerslev from scoring right before the first goal, which showed that their high line might be weak.

That weakness was also clear in terms of mindset, as Maupay’s tricks made it too easy for Spurs to get angry. They also looked shaky because the guests were slowing down the game on purpose.

Mark Flekken almost stopped Werner’s low shot by the right post, and Richarlison’s beautiful strike looked like it would go in when it curled back off the back post.

But they lost focus again, and Ethan Pinnock almost made things worse with a backheel that missed the mark. Toney then headed another good chance at Vicario.

From that weak start, Spurs came back to save the game, with a three-goal burst ending a crazy game.
