‘Deal in place’: Romano says PL club have now agreed to sign £26M player Tottenham really wanted

It appears that both Tottenham Hotspur and Ange Postecoglou are eager to secure one more signing before the upcoming transfer deadline, especially with the recent acquisitions of Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin leaving room for further additions.

Departures, including Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier, alongside potential exits for Bryan Gil and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, have likely freed up additional funds for new signings.

While the priority for reinforcements, especially in the case of departing midfielders, seems to be a midfielder, Spurs are also demonstrating a strategic approach for the future.

Postecoglou has shown keen interest in Antonio Nusa from Club Brugge, an 18-year-old winger with considerable potential. Talks have been ongoing, and some believed that a deal was close.

However, an update from Fabrizio Romano may have altered the landscape significantly.

Romano confirmed that Brentford has reached an agreement to sign Nusa for £26m, potentially dealing a considerable blow to Spurs’ pursuit.

Tottenham appeared to be in a favorable position to secure the signing, a prospect that excited many for the upcoming season. However, similar to the situation with Radu Dragusin, Tottenham now faces strong competition, and Romano’s update suggests it might be too late to sway the player away from Brentford.

Romano stated, “Brentford have just reached an agreement with Club Brugge to sign Antonio Nusa. Deal in place for a fee in excess of €30m package.”

“Green light ready also on the player’s side, he’s staying at Brugge until June then joining Brentford in June. Time for formal steps now.”

As a result, it seems Tottenham might have missed out on a significant target, a player well-suited for Postecoglou’s style. While Brentford represents an excellent move for Nusa, some Spurs fans may feel disappointed.

While it might be unfair to claim Tottenham hesitated with their interest, the situation has allowed Brentford to take the lead. Tottenham might now shift their focus to other targets, including a Brazilian for whom they’ve recently made a bid.
