‘He looked frightened’: Tony Cascarino blasts Tottenham 27yr old who has got worse under Ange

Tottenham Hotspur experienced one of their most lackluster attacking displays this season on Friday night, resulting in their exit from the FA Cup.

Facing a seasoned and confident Manchester City side, Spurs succumbed to a narrow 1-0 defeat, failing to register a shot on goal in the first half and managing only one overall.

Ange Postecoglou’s trademark “Ange ball” was notably absent, and criticism was directed at new recruit Timo Werner, on loan from RB Leipzig, for his performance.

Tony Cascarino, commenting on talkSPORT, expressed that the 27-year-old appeared ‘frightened to death’ of Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker. Cascarino even went on to suggest that Werner looked ‘worse’ in Tottenham colors than during his time at Chelsea.

While some argue that Werner made numerous runs during the game but was not adequately supplied by the midfield or fullbacks, others contend that Werner, as a forward, should also contribute as a creator, a role Cascarino believes he failed to fulfill.

Cascarino remarked, “Timo Werner on the other side. Honestly, he was frightened of Kyle Walker. When you come up against Kyle Walker, you know what he is. He is incredibly strong and quick. And Timo Werner is quick.”

“But he stood out on the left-hand side, and he was never ever a threat. Richarlison had a hard job. He had both wingers on either side of him offering nothing to him. Timo Werner actually looked like he was worse than he was at Chelsea. He’s not even getting chances.”

“At least at Chelsea, he got loads of chances and missed them. It was his home debut. You think there would be something. But he looked frightened to death of Kyle Walker.”

It’s worth noting that before joining Spurs, Werner had started only two games this season, making his integration into the team a challenging task. Physically and in terms of sharpness, he is still far from his best and is expected to improve as the season unfolds.
