Tottenham ready stunning last gasp bid, £80m will seal deal

Tottenham is preparing a surprising last-minute bid to secure Conor Gallagher from Chelsea before the January transfer window concludes, according to sources briefed by Football Insider.

Reliable insiders disclosed to Football Insider that Spurs intend to reignite their interest in the 23-year-old. This decision follows their unsuccessful attempt to sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City this month and their challenges in acquiring the specific midfielder sought by manager Ange Postecoglou.

Earlier reports from Football Insider (January 19) had indicated a breakdown in the pursuit of Gallagher. However, the latest information suggests that Tottenham will make another move, particularly in light of Phillips’ confirmed loan to West Ham on Friday (January 26).

Postecoglou’s team had shown keen interest in acquiring the unsettled Manchester City midfielder, but the £6 million loan fee and the necessity to cover a significant portion of his wages were considered too costly.

Tottenham has been identified as a long-time admirer of English international Gallagher, despite limited historical dealings between the two London rivals. Discussions with Chelsea have taken place this month, but the West London club values the player at £80 million in total. Gallagher’s contract is set to expire in 18 months.

A key figure for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season, Gallagher has contributed six assists in 27 appearances across various competitions.

Tottenham’s priority in the January transfer window has been securing a new central midfielder. The club remains optimistic about adding another player to the squad following the permanent acquisition of Radu Dragusin and the loan signing of Timo Werner.

As of now, Tottenham occupies the fifth position in the Premier League table after a 2-2 draw against Manchester United on January 14. Their upcoming fixture is in the FA Cup’s fourth round against Manchester City at home on the evening of January 26.
