Chelsea pay £89M transfer price amid Antonio Nusa Spurs transfer battle
Tottenham Hotspur is in talks with Club Brugge about getting Antonio Nusa, London Football knows. The 18-year-old Norwegian international is one of the most interesting wide players in Europe, and Chelsea has tried to sign him in the past.
Nusa would stay in Brugge until the end of the season after the move. He would then go to London for pre-season in the summer. Ange Postecoglou has already signed Timo Werner on loan with the chance to buy, but if they can make a deal for Nusa, it might not be as smart to keep the German international.
Many Premier League teams are wary of the Profit and Sustainability Regulations after charges were brought against Everton and Nottingham Forest, so Chelsea hasn’t done any major business in January. The Blues have already spent a lot of money, so it doesn’t look like they will be able to compete with Spurs for Nusa.
As soon as Todd Boehly took over, one of the first players to join was Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk. Chelsea beat Arsenal to the player at the last minute. Some of the players who have joined Chelsea since the deal were Noni Madueke, Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer, and Christopher Nkunku. Chelsea paid a lot of money to make the deal happen.
Chelsea isn’t expected to get any UEFA Champions League money this season, so their spending will be closely watched. Their players haven’t done much to support the huge amount of money they’ve spent. Chelsea’s critics might bring up the fact that Spurs might be able to get Nusa in a deal that is good for both parties financially.
So far, Mudryk hasn’t impressed, Nkunku has had several big injuries, and Madueke has already been linked with a move away. The employment team has been given some time off thanks to Palmer’s success, but if Nusa makes a name for himself in North London, it will not look good at all.
Also, Spurs is very much in the running for a spot in the Champions League this season. Since they lost Harry Kane in the summer, a comparison between the two London teams and where they might finish will be a damaging assessment of how the west London team works. The loss to Middlesbrough in the first game of the League Cup semi-final has also added to Mauricio Pochettino’s stress.
Chelsea needs to get a handle on things. In January, however, that break doesn’t look like it will be coming from that time.
