It is big package – Romano drops update as Tottenham eye another January signing

Tottenham Hotspur might need to present a substantial package to secure Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher during the winter window, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

With only 18 months left on Gallagher’s contract and amid potential complications, Spurs may have to put forward a “very, very big package” to land the 23-year-old.

Tottenham, under the management of Ange Postecoglou, is looking to strengthen its midfield options in the ongoing 2023/24 Premier League campaign, aiming for qualification to the 2024/25 Champions League.

Gallagher has solidified his presence at Chelsea, making regular appearances during the current season. While Spurs expressed interest in Gallagher during the 2023 summer transfer window, a deal couldn’t materialize due to Chelsea’s reluctance to sell.

Gallagher’s contract situation adds complexity to the scenario, with only 18 months left on his current deal, potentially forcing Chelsea into a sale to avoid losing out on his value.

Despite reported interest from Tottenham, Chelsea is expected to retain Gallagher during the winter transfer window.

Spurs, still open to offers for Gallagher, value him at £60m, but might consider an offer of £50m or more.

However, given their recent financial commitments, including the signing of Radu Dragusin and the loan of Timo Werner, it is unlikely Tottenham will match that figure.

Fabrizio Romano suggests that, while Tottenham appreciates Gallagher, there haven’t been direct negotiations between Chelsea and Spurs. The situation remains quiet, and Tottenham might need to wait or consider a summer move.

Eric Dier, a Tottenham defender, has joined Bayern Munich on an initial loan until the end of the season. Bayern’s interest in Dragusin, who eventually joined Spurs, led to Dier’s move.

Dier, having been out of favor under Postecoglou, found an opportunity at Bayern, offering cover for center-back and defensive midfield positions.

This move could potentially mark the end of Dier’s ten-year career at Tottenham, with Thomas Tuchel seeking his versatility for the Bundesliga giants.
