Spurs bid for unique £30M pitbull, it’s terrible news for Bissouma

Not too long ago, Tottenham Hotspur was a consistent contender at the top of the Premier League under Mauricio Pochettino.

However, with the departure of Pochettino and recent challenges, including finishing eighth last season, parting ways with Harry Kane, and changing managers frequently, Spurs are in search of a resurgence.

Ange Postecoglou, the current head coach, seems to be steering the club in a promising direction with a tactical approach aligned with shrewd transfer market moves.

According to a report from Fla Web, via Sport Witness, Tottenham is showing interest in acquiring Wolverhampton Wanderers’ midfielder Joao Gomes, a key figure in the center of the park this season.

The report suggests that Spurs will soon submit a formal offer for Gomes, following their recent acquisitions of defender Radu Dragusin and former Chelsea forward Timo Werner.

Despite Wolves’ success this season, Gomes has been targeted, with the club reportedly demanding at least €35m (£30m) for his transfer.

Gomes was previously linked with a move to Liverpool in 2022 but eventually joined Wolves from Flamengo in a £15m deal a year ago.

His Premier League debut saw him score off the bench against Southampton, setting the stage for a promising career in English football. Known as “The Pitbull” in Brazil, Gomes combines tough tackling and tenacity with an underrated passing game, making him a target of interest in the Premier League.

Having secured a central role in Wolves’ midfield, Gomes has started 17 matches in the English top-flight this season. His statistics, including a pass completion rate of 83%, a key pass every two games, 3.2 tackles, 5.9 ball recoveries per fixture, and a 62% success rate in aerial battles, underscore his consistency and value to the team.

Ange Postecoglou’s interest in Gomes is likely driven by the midfielder’s unwavering performance and reliability, especially considering Yves Bissouma’s occasional unavailability for selection.

While Bissouma is recognized as one of the top defensive midfielders, accumulating three suspensions and missing five matches this season has raised concerns about his consistency.

Gomes, praised for his unique qualities, presents a skill set that could complement or even replicate the contributions of Bissouma at Tottenham.
