No improvement now as 100% Tottenham Ace set to miss out on United game

Giovani Lo Celso, seemingly on the verge of a positive turn in his Tottenham career, has encountered yet another setback, leaving supporters and manager Ange Postecoglou in a mixed emotional state.

Throughout this season, Lo Celso has exhibited moments of brilliance, particularly evident in his consecutive goals against Aston Villa and Manchester City, showcasing his readiness to step up in James Maddison’s absence.

Had it not been for Maddison’s prolonged injury, Lo Celso might not have found a place in Postecoglou’s starting lineups. However, when given the opportunity, his performances against Villa and City suggested a player poised for progress.

In the 2-1 home defeat against Unai Emery’s side on November 26, the 27-year-old displayed notable stats, completing 92% of his passes, including three key passes, and showcasing an impressive defensive work rate with seven ground duels won, one interception, and four tackles.

Building on this, he delivered a positive performance against City, completing 100% of his passes in the 3-3 draw at the Etihad Stadium on December 3.

However, since that match, Lo Celso has only started two of Spurs’ six league matches, despite Maddison’s continued absence, indicating a disruption in his momentum.

An injury preceding the 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest on December 15 halted his progress, but consecutive starts against Bournemouth and Burnley suggested a return to form.

His exceptional assist for Son Heung-min in the 3-1 home win against Bournemouth on December 31 demonstrated his vision and execution, contributing to Spurs’ commanding lead.

Despite these promising displays, a setback looms as reports from the Evening Standard on January 11 indicate that Lo Celso is set to miss the trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on January 14 due to a muscle issue.

While Lo Celso shows promise as a playmaker, there are concerns about his ability to handle the physicality and demands of the Premier League. Tottenham and Postecoglou now face the challenge of determining the next steps for Lo Celso.
