23yr old wants to stay at Tottenham and fight for his place than leaving out on loan

23-year-old midfielder Oliver Skipp is inclined to remain at Tottenham, opting to fight for his place within the team rather than pursuing a loan move this month, according to insights shared by Tottenham expert Alasdair Gold.

Under Ange Postecoglou, Skipp has slipped in the pecking order, with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr being the preferred starting duo. While Skipp began the season’s first game alongside Bissouma, Sarr has since claimed his position impressively.

However, the absence of Bissouma and Sarr could provide Skipp with an opportunity to showcase his abilities and reclaim his preferred position within the team.

Gold’s report suggests that the academy graduate is disinterested in departing on loan at this stage, aligning with Tottenham’s current plans, considering the limited options available in the midfield. Nevertheless, Gold indicates that this stance might change based on future developments regarding the team’s midfield personnel.

Gold stated (via Football London):

“Oliver Skipp is understood to be keen to battle for his spot rather than heading anywhere this month, which ties in with Tottenham’s plans, although that could change in the summer depending on the sheer number of personnel in the midfield. Skipp has also rarely been used in his more natural number six role.”

The scenario might shift for Skipp if Tottenham manages to secure a midfielder in this transfer window, possibly prompting considerations for a loan move.
