Serie A club leave out want away tottenham star to pursue Leicester man

According to Corriere dello Sport, Napoli has altered its plans and abandoned its pursuit of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, redirecting their focus towards Leicester City’s Boubakary Soumare instead.

Reports suggest Napoli, currently positioned eighth in the standings, are eager to fortify their midfield in the ongoing transfer window to bolster their prospects for an improved second half of the season.

Initially, Hojbjerg was among the targeted players for the Serie A club due to his limited playtime at Tottenham this season.

However, the outlet indicates that Napoli was unwilling to meet Tottenham’s demands, as the North London club insisted on a purchase obligation to be integrated into any loan offer for the player.

Consequently, Walter Mazzarri’s side has reportedly abandoned the pursuit of the 28-year-old and shifted their focus to Soumare, who is presently on loan at Sevilla from Leicester, as they perceive the Frenchman to be a more economical option.

This development surfaces shortly after Gazzetta dello Sport’s recent report suggesting Juventus are also hesitating in their quest for Hojbjerg, possibly delaying their pursuit of the Spurs star until the following summer.

The financial struggles experienced by almost all clubs outside the Premier League since the pandemic have posed significant challenges for teams like Tottenham in offloading surplus players in recent years.

This trend is likely to persist for the next couple of years, forcing Spurs to engage in transactions with other English clubs or explore innovative solutions like player swaps and part-exchange deals.

While some clubs have managed this by transferring players to Saudi Arabian teams, individuals like Hojbjerg, who are at the peak of their careers, might not consider a move to the Middle East.
