Tottenham out of bid after Chelsea raise Gallagher price tag
New reports suggest Chelsea has elevated Conor Gallagher’s valuation to £60 million, a significant increase from Tottenham’s £50 million offer for the midfielder during the summer.
The updated valuation indicates Gallagher’s probable stay at Stamford Bridge beyond the ongoing January transfer window.
The 23-year-old, a product of Chelsea’s academy, has been a regular feature for the Blues this season, participating in 19 out of 20 Premier League matches, with an absence in one game due to suspension. Remarkably, Gallagher has captained the team in 11 of these appearances.
Despite persistent interest from Spurs, the Daily Mirror asserts that Gallagher is anticipated to prolong his tenure in West London. While Chelsea remains open to offers, they now value the English midfielder closer to £60 million. Although a £50 million bid could initiate discussions, the club appears steadfast in their valuation.
Tottenham, having balked at the £50 million valuation previously, seems unlikely to match the increased figure this month. Newcastle and West Ham also monitor Gallagher’s situation alongside Spurs.
Despite Mauricio Pochettino’s admiration for Gallagher’s versatility and work ethic, the player remains determined to continue at Stamford Bridge.
However, with his contract expiring at the end of the next season and negotiations for an extension not progressing, Chelsea could consider selling him to ensure financial prudence.
While Chelsea entertains the prospect of extending Gallagher’s contract, they acknowledge the potential decrease in his value if a sale doesn’t materialize soon. Pochettino expressed his desire to retain Gallagher but admitted uncertainty about the outcome.
Regarding Gallagher’s future, Pochettino stated, “Look, I cannot guarantee I will be here after tomorrow! In football, things can happen, and it is between the club and the player.”
He highlighted the player’s contractual situation as pivotal in determining the outcome, emphasizing the need for a mutual decision beneficial for both parties.
