Club Director Confirms With Tottenham To Sign £180k/week Utility Man
There have been recent links between Ivan Perisic, a player at Tottenham Hotspur, and a potential departure from the club in the coming months.
The 34-year-old versatile player is currently sidelined due to a serious injury, seemingly ruling him out for the rest of the ongoing season.
Hajduk Split has shown interest in securing the services of the Tottenham player, as confirmed by the club’s sporting director, Mindaugas Nikoličius. Nikoličius acknowledged ongoing discussions with Tottenham and hinted at the possibility of reaching an agreement in this transfer window, which extends in Croatia until the middle of February.
In a statement quoted by SportSport, Nikoličius mentioned, “Ivan is hurt, it’s too early. We have to see when he will recover, when he will be able to run and play. The transfer window here lasts until the middle of February and that is an advantage for us. There is a dialogue with Tottenham and we will make the best decision for everyone.”
With Perisic’s contract at Tottenham extending until the summer of 2024, it’s logical for the North London club to consider allowing him to depart for a nominal fee in the ongoing transfer window rather than losing him on a free transfer when his contract expires.
During the tenure of Antonio Conte last season, the 34-year-old proved to be a pivotal figure for Tottenham, contributing significantly with 12 assists across various competitions. His ability to play as a winger or a wing-back adds versatility, potentially a valuable asset for Hajduk Split if they succeed in securing his signature.tott
While the prospect of returning to his childhood club may appeal to Perisic, it’s likely he would need to consider a substantial reduction in wages to facilitate a move.
Presently earning £180k-a-week at Tottenham, Perisic’s wage demands could pose a challenge for Hajduk Split, possibly requiring negotiation or a significant adjustment for the move to materialize.
