People are shocked: £19M Tottenham player has left staffs at Spurs stunned – Alasdair Gold
Rodrigo Bentancur’s quick return from an ankle injury has surprised many within Tottenham Hotspur, as per insights shared by Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold.
Despite initial expectations of a February return following ankle ligament damage from a challenge by Matty Cash in November, Bentancur remarkably rejoined the starting lineup during Tottenham’s 3-1 victory over Bournemouth.
The setback occurred during Bentancur’s first start for the club in nine months, compounding a challenging year marred by previous fitness concerns, including an ACL injury in February.
Following his 60-minute appearance in the win against Bournemouth, where he received accolades from Ange Postecoglou, Bentancur’s unexpectedly swift comeback even astonished the club’s staff.
Alasdair Gold, in his recent YouTube video, shared the reactions within Tottenham about Bentancur’s unexpected return, stating, “He spent all of last week training with the first team, and I’ve spoken to lots of people within the club and honestly, people are shocked in the club.”
His comeback arrives at a critical juncture for Spurs, given the team’s recent injury and suspension challenges, including Yves Bissouma’s absence due to a red card and subsequent participation in AFCON 2024 alongside Pape Matar Sarr.
Bentancur’s premature return provides a timely boost for Postecoglou, who faces a shortage of midfield options in the coming weeks.
Despite his limited appearances under Postecoglou owing to injuries, the £19 million midfielder has demonstrated his quality during his tenure in north London.
