Postecoglou Happy To welcome Return Of warrior Rodrigo Bentancur

After barely making a full recovery from a major knee injury in October, Bentancur gave Spurs a much-needed boost to their fitness on Sunday by starting their 3-1 victory against Bournemouth at home.

After rupturing an ankle ligament in November, it was anticipated that the Uruguayan would be out of commission until February.

With Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma scheduled to play for their respective African Cup of Nations teams, and James Maddison still out due to injury, Postecoglou was expecting a challenging January. However, he may use Bentancur for games against Burnley, Manchester United, and Brentford.

“He trained all week with us and speaking to him (Saturday), he felt really good about how he was feeling,” Postecoglou said.

We were aware that the amount of information we could extract from him would eventually run out. He provides a boost for the whole group, so it was nice to see him out there again.

“He’s not just a fantastic player; this group has seen his recent struggles, and despite that, he has never allowed it get to him.

“He is a fighter. He wants to assist, and that’s what’s upsetting for all the folks who are now losing out.”

With Alejo Veliz forced off against Bournemouth due to a suspected knee injury and Sarr visibly upset when forced to be replaced due to a hamstring issue, Tottenham’s list of absentees is still long.

The two will be evaluated in the following days, but Sarr has already said that he is certain he will be well enough to represent Senegal at the AFCON.

Veliz’s absence would be untimely since he was poised for playing time and South Korea’s captain, Son Heung-min, would be gone at the Asian Cup for the whole month of January.

After being brought back from his season-long loan at Ipswich last week, Postecoglou can now use Dane Scarlett once again. The striker should be included in the squad for Friday’s FA Cup matchup against Burnley.

Ben Davies, a defender, said to SpursPlay that “the FA Cup is special.” When everything is said and done, it’s a trophy. This year, we want to truly get in and give it our best shot.

“Burnley might not be picking up the points in the Premier League, but they are a good side, they play attacking football and it will be tough.”

Though head coach Andoni Iraola was happy with their performance in N17, Bournemouth will be looking to bounce back from their first loss since November 4 when they meet QPR in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.

Iraola declared: “You have to score goals, and in terms of finishing, they were much superior than us in the last third.

I’m rather pleased with the performance. Against elite opponents, we play with a strong personality.

“We had our chances, we had a lot of ball in their box and played around their half, but it wasn’t good enough to score the (equaliser) and put them under pressure.”
