Girona now want to sign Tottenham star in unexpected transfer twist

High-flying Girona is reportedly aiming to make a bid for the Spaniard, therefore Tottenham will have to struggle to hang onto right-back Pedro Porro, according to sources close to the team.

Porro joined Spurs on loan from Sporting CP in January and made the move permanent for £39 million in the summer. Since then, he has rapidly grown to be a beloved member of the team.

In his first full season in north London, the 24-year-old has had an incredible start, establishing himself as one of the top names on Ange Postecoglou’s roster at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Lilywhites may have to stave off some interest in the right-back, however. Tottenham News was informed by a recruiting source connected to Spurs that Girona, a La Liga team, is considering making an unannounced move for Porro.

Girona has been the unexpected star of Spain this year. With 45 points, they are now tied for second place in La Liga with Real Madrid, behind them only on goal differential and seven points ahead of FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

According to sources close to Tottenham News, the Catalan club has selected Porro as the ideal player to integrate into their vision as they strive to assemble a team capable of competing long-term with the biggest names in Spanish football.

Prior to joining Manchester City in August 2019, Porro was a player for Girona. Despite his first loan stay in Portugal, Porro’s career at the Etihad never really took off, and he finally signed a permanent move to Sporting Lisbon.

Tottenham News has also been informed that Girona may face competition from Real Madrid and Barcelona for Porro’s signing, with the Spanish powerhouses keeping a close watch on the defender’s development in the Premier League.

Despite his recent ascent to fame in the Premier League, Porro could be enticed to return home.

This season, the defender has made 17 Premier League starts and has already assisted six goals.
