Tottenham Could Make Incredible Attacking Ace On A Free Transfer In January

After a challenging year-end, Tottenham Hotspur is expected to boost their roster during the January transfer window.

Spurs dominated the Premier League standings at the start of the season and have subsequently suffered from a number of injuries and bans.

In a piece released today, The Telegraph examines the positions Tottenham hopes to bolster in January as well as potential targets.

The “most likely winger for Spurs to target in January” is reportedly Jota, an attacker for Al-Ittihad who Postecoglou is familiar with.

In recent weeks, the 24-year-old has been closely associated with Tottenham; according to the report, Spurs are “likely to look at a loan deal or a free transfer for Jota.”

Since moving to Saudi Arabia for £25 million, Jota has suffered because of a restriction limiting the number of international players who may play at once, which has prevented him from getting much game time.

The Portuguese joined the team in the summer and has only made 11 appearances, totaling slightly over 500 minutes and two goals.

Al-Ittihad winger Jota is being eyed by Tottenham Hotspur

Of course, it’s still unclear what Al-Ittihad intend to do with Jota. It doesn’t seem plausible that they would simply let the player go for free, given that they spent a hefty sum for him.

It seems more probable that they will sign him on a loan, particularly if it would free them from paying him for the remainder of the season.

It’s unfortunate that Jota hasn’t had much success since his relocation. Ange Postecoglou, however, is one manager who can persuade a failing player to perform at his best.

Furthermore, Jota has worked closely with the Tottenham boss during their time at Celtic, so she is well-versed in the Angeball system.

Jota was earlier called “incredible” by Postecoglou, and a “difference-maker” by Barry Ferguson.

Tottenham would not be exposed to much danger if he signed on loan. They would have nothing to lose and everything to gain, so they may as well give it a go.
