Former EPL boss says Ange Postecoglou will get rid of 29yr old Spurs star

Stuart Pearce, a former Premier League manager, thinks Ange Postecoglou of Tottenham Hotspur would probably approve Eric Dier’s exit in the January transfer window.

Since the appointment of the Australian manager, the adaptable England international has dropped down the hierarchy and has had difficulty getting into the starting lineup this year.

Dier has been connected to a transfer away from Tottenham, but it’s unclear whether that move will really happen next month.

Under their new management, Tottenham has adopted a free-flowing offensive approach and a high defensive line. That calls for quick defenders, and in the current lineup, players like Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have shown to be excellent choices.

Dier is no longer an important member of the North London team since Postecoglou’s strategy would expose him due to his lack of space.

Pearce thinks it would be best for the two sides to split ways in January, although the Tottenham utility player might make a transfer in that month.

“If you’re not a first-team starter at his age, there’s every chance [he could leave],” the legendary English football player stated in an interview with Express Sport.

Ange may have decided to move on from him as a result of it. He’s been watching him for the last several months, and Van van Ven shown that he can play in that capacity due to his quickness in Tottenham’s high-court press, which leaves them very vulnerable at the back.

The athletes that do participate in the game must be comfortable playing one-on-one or two-on-two. He has to have faith that the two mobile players at the core of his back line can withstand the pressure of a full-court press and the resulting exposure.

“Eric Dier might consider this a good time to move on, as he owes Tottenham nothing.”

Dier has served Spurs well over the years, but at this point in his career, he needs to play often. He clearly needs chances, and Spurs won’t provide them to him. Instead, he should attempt to join a team where he can contribute significantly as a starter.

Playing a lot of games in the second half of the season might help him secure a spot in the England starting lineup for the summer’s European Championship.
