Postecoglou lament new concern despite Tottenham’s hard fought win

Tottenham had three victories going into the Christmas break, but they had to earn them.

Richarlison and Heung-min Son gave Spurs a 2-0 lead against Sean Dyche’s Everton after only 18 minutes of play. However, the well-performing Toffees had won their previous four Premier League games and shown that they were a well-oiled machine as they gradually gained momentum in the first half of the match.

After then, their danger persisted, and Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou will be concerned with the amount of possession his team gave Everton in the second half. With eight minutes remaining, Andre Gomes’s incredible goal set up a tense finale. However, Guglielmo Vicario, Tottenham’s custodian, finally saved the match by tipping Arnaut Danjuma’s hard late drive over the crossbar.

However, this wasn’t how it had to be for the hosts. Spurs often won the ball away from Everton thanks to Pape Matar Sarr and Oliver Skipp, who was playing in only his second Premier League match of the year because of Yves Bissouma’s ban. How often Postecoglou’s team then lost it was the problem. As the first half went on, it made it possible for Everton to become better.

Tottenham’s advantage may have been reduced, if not eliminated, before the half, if James Garner had scored with more conviction or if Amadou Onana had passed the ball to Jarrad Branthwaite instead of slamming it over.

Due to Everton’s superior possession and menace, the sweeping counterattack that was initiated by Sarr, aided by the excellent Brennan Johnson, and completed by Richarlison to give Tottenham their seventh-minute lead seemed a long time ago in the second half.

Cristian Romero was replaced by Eric Dier at halftime. The Argentine centre defender was observed on the bench throughout the second half with an ice pack under his right hamstring, but he was able to move about unhindered at the end of play. Dier was going to have a difficult forty-five minutes, as was the Spurs defensive as a whole.

Despite all of Everton’s possession and attacks, Jordan Pickford did a fantastic job of tipping the ball round the post to keep the score at 3-0. Tottenham, on the other hand, are experienced in counter-attacking play rather than deliberate possession.
