Tottenham Hotspur’s stance on Super League confirmed

Tottenham Hotspur has expressed their thoughts on the European Super League as the discussion about it rages, and it’s fair to say that the North London team is not in favor of the plans.

Tottenham was one of the 12 teams from around Europe, along with the other five English Premier League teams who made up the “Big Six,” to sign up for the preliminary ideas for a European Super League back in 2021.

The bulk of their European counterparts and all six teams finally withdrew from such plans as a result of widespread criticism from commentators and the media (ESPN).

Talk of a possible league structure with relegations and promotions has been brought up often since its early demise (Financial Times via fpotball).

Speaking about the issue during a Fan Forum at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 19, 23 (as reported by Football London), Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said he had no regrets about his decision to join the Super League’s first season, but acknowledged the preparations were a “disaster” by the time they were all through.

The European Super League is not what Tottenham wants

Now that rumors about the European Super League are starting to surface again, Tottenham Hotspur has issued a brief statement on X clarifying the club’s position.

“We would like to clarify that our position has not changed following today’s (Thursday, December 21) ruling by the European Court of Justice (ECJ) regarding the European Suppper League (ESL),” the tweet said. We are still dedicated to upholding the principles of European football, and we’ll keep cooperating with other clubs via the ECA and taking part in UEFA events.

I support keeping the game as it is, and Tottenham has no business being part in any ¹ proposals to create a European Super League. There is no need to alter the game since it is already good.
