Chelsea shocked as Conor Gallagher make U-turn amid Tottenham interest
According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea is reportedly open to hearing bids for Conor Gallagher, who is said to be a target for Tottenham in January. This is a startling development.
This season, Gallagher has become a key member of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad; while Ben Chilwill and Reece James are out, the midfielder even dons the captain’s armband.
The 23-year-old Rudy Galatti of Tribal Football has been the subject of stories for the last two months indicating that Spurs are still very interested in him; however, in recent weeks, a number of sources have said that the Blues are planning to sign the player to a new contract (90 minutes).
Sudden U-turn by Chelsea about Conor Gallagher’s future
The Mail now claims that there is no indication of any movement in the negotiations for Gallagher to sign a new contract, and Chelsea is now open to receiving bids for its academy graduate.
It is claimed that because of the West London club’s difficulties adhering to the FFP regulations, officials there feel it would be financially advantageous to profit from the England international next month.
Pochettino is said to be eager to acquire a number nine to his team, and Chelsea may have to give up Gallagher in order to earn the necessary money.
In Our Views
I have no doubt that Spurs would make a bid for Gallagher if he does not sign a new deal by January (which he currently seems unlikely to do).
Even if Pochettino seems to think highly of the 23-year-old, the Argentine lacks the power to demand a major deal since his future at Stamford Bridge remains uncertain.
