Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has come under fire after his touchline clash with Seamus Coleman during Spurs’ tense 1-0 win over Everton.
Although Spurs secured Premier League survival on the final day, former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor blasted Vicario’s behaviour, calling the scenes “embarrassing” live on talkSPORT.
Vicario, who remained on the bench throughout the match as Antonin Kinsky started in goal, became involved in a heated exchange with Everton captain Coleman after tensions flared between both benches.
Agbonlahor didn’t hold back in his assessment, questioning the Italian’s attitude and performances throughout the campaign.
“Vicario has done nothing in a Spurs shirt this season,” he said. “You’re offering out Seamus Coleman? Have some respect for a Premier League legend. It was embarrassing.”
The criticism adds further pressure on the 29-year-old, whose difficult season saw him concede 50 goals in 31 Premier League appearances before missing games through injury.
With Kinsky impressing in recent weeks, Spurs may now face a serious decision over who will be Roberto De Zerbi’s first-choice goalkeeper moving forward.
For Vicario, the focus now has to shift back onto improving performances on the pitch rather than unnecessary touchline drama.
