Tottenham striker Will Lankshear has shared an emotional message with Oxford United supporters following the end of his season-long loan spell at the Championship club.
The 21-year-old forward enjoyed a breakthrough campaign despite Oxford’s relegation, scoring 12 goals and becoming a fan favourite thanks to his relentless work rate and eye for goal. One of the standout moments of his season came in Oxford’s 4-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in their final home game, where Lankshear scored twice in a performance that showcased his growing quality in front of goal.
Although Oxford’s fate had already been sealed due to other results, Lankshear’s impact across the campaign did not go unnoticed. The Spurs youngster finished the season with 47 appearances and 16 goal contributions, while also picking up Oxford United’s Golden Boot and Young Player of the Year awards.
Lankshear, who was joined at Oxford by fellow Tottenham prospect Jamie Donley during the second half of the season, posted a heartfelt message on social media reflecting on his time at the club.
“Although it wasn’t the end we all wanted, I’d like to thank all the staff, players and fans at Oxford United. You made my time here unforgettable. I wish everyone the very best in their futures and I’ll always keep an eye on Oxford United in the future. Once a yellow, always a yellow. Keep fighting.”
The striker’s impressive development has reportedly attracted interest ahead of next season, with clubs monitoring his situation after a strong individual campaign in difficult circumstances.
Lankshear will now return to Tottenham hoping to impress new head coach Roberto De Zerbi during pre-season and push for opportunities with the first team.
Oxford United manager Matt Bloomfield praised the young forward’s professionalism and mentality, backing him to reach the top level of the game.
“His finishing, dedication to his craft and single-minded desire to be the best he can be make him a credit to himself. There’s so much to admire about him, and he’s going to go right to the top.”
